Developed from the earlier Bristol Freighter, the Mk.32 featured an extended fuselage, a widened nose door, and increased payload capacity, allowing it to carry up to three cars and 20 passengers. British United Air Ferries (BUAF), one of the leading operators of air ferry services, used the Superfreighter extensively from its base at Lydd Airport, Kent. By 1967, the aircraft was a common sight shuttling travelers and their vehicles between England and continental Europe, offering a fast and convenient alternative to traditional sea crossings. While primarily a civilian aircraft, the Bristol Freighter family had its roots in military transport. During the late 1940s and 1950s, the aircraft was used by the Royal Air Force and other air forces for cargo and personnel transport, particularly in the Middle East and Asia.
